This Monday we would like to introduce Maria Covillion to you, an Orange County mom. A mom of 2 from Cornwall, and a common core crusader. Maria was ever so kind to introduce us to her life, and she is a busy mother.
What does a typical day look like for you? I work part time as an office manager. Mornings can get crazy between getting kids and myself ready before 9 am. I work until 2 and then come home to my daughter (who wants to play with me) and my dog (who expects a long game of frisbee toss.) After I get my son from school, we start homework (made more difficult since Common Core hit our district). Then I cook dinner, clean up the kitchen, and get my daughter ready for bed a bit later. I spend my time after my daughter is in bed on Facebook: learning more about how we can make Common Core go away forever, and trying to encourage others to join the fight. On my days off from the office, I catch up on housework. I also work part time in a restaurant on the weekends, and last year I became a certified dog trainer.
What is your favorite memory of being a mom so far? The milestones my kids reach, also seeing their happiness when we do something they really love, or go somewhere fun.
What is a funny mom moment you have had? There are too many to list. Recently, hearing what comes out of my daughter’s mouth is quite amusing.
In your free time what do you like to do? Read, take pictures, fight Common Core
Current favorite show you are watching? Pit Bulls and Parolees, Chicago Fire, The Blacklist

In your town where are you favorite places to go with your kids/family? The library, town park
What makes town special? Small town where people come together to help when needed.
Anything else you want to share? I like to call myself a Common Core Warrior Mom. I am currently hosting an education forum on the Common Core Learning Standards with Dr. Peg Luksik. It will be held at Munger Cottage in Cornwall on March 23 at 6:30.
